Parenting advice is available everywhere! Everybody from your parents, your co-workers, to the cashier at the grocery store - give you suggestions on how to parent. With so much advice, well intended suggestions may cause further confusion. How can you sort through all of the information? Read the following tips for some practical advice others have found helpful! You need to make sure that you say what you mean and that you do what you say you are going to do. If you tell your children that you will be at a play of theirs, you need to make sure that you are there. It is what builds their trust and respect for their parents. Make sure that you are taking time to engage in activities that YOU enjoy! We are much more effective parents when we make sure our needs are attended to, so leave your kids with your significant others for an evening and have dinner with your girlfriends, or schedule a massage. Listen to your kids. Beyond just trying to make excuses and complain about stuff, they do try to tell you things. If you are listening to them you can correct a lot of issues before they get out of control. They need to feel like they can talk to you and that you will actually listen and not just hear what you want to hear. Make it a point to know who your child's friends are and if at all possible, their parents as well. If your child is really good friends with another child, you will have already met the parents. However, it is important for you to know who all your child's friends are as much as possible. The above article, no doubt, provided you some practical advice! Apply what fits your circumstances. Every child is different, as is every parent. With so much advice available, you may have felt a bit confused. Just remember, your parents, your co-workers, and even the cashiers at the grocery store all have good intensions!
